Engineering

The mission of this department is to "enhance the quality of life for our residential and business community by providing and maintaining quality infrastructure." One goal that supports this mission is to provide effective communication with our customers and the public.

Engineering Department duties include planning, designing, cost estimation and construction supervision of infrastructure improvements inside the city limits. The department oversees the hiring of private engineering consultants for project development and design and manages their performance through the completion of the project.

Stream Overflows

The City of Bridgeport operates a Combined Sewer System. This means that both sanitary sewage and storm water from wet weather events flow through our system. During heavy rains, Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO's) are designed to discharge the extra flow into receiving streams.

During wet weather events, residents can contact the City to determine which CSO's are discharging. If you have any questions regarding Combined Sewer Overflows, please contact Jared Cummons, Superintendent of Utilities, (304) 842-8212.
