Utilities

Water & Sewer Sign-up Procedures

A new customer with the City of Bridgeport water and sewer utility department must make application in person. The customer must give at least one day notice or by 12:00 p.m. the day they wish to begin their service. Applications are taken Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. A customer must be at the location where service has been shut off. The information required from a new customer is as follows:

  • Copy of driver's license number
  • Social Security Number
  • Service Location
  • Phone Number
  • Employment of responsible party
  • Buying or renting at location
  • Sign application card
  • Spouse, roomate, etc. wishing to be listed on the account or to speak with the utility office regarding the account must provide the same information and sign application card.

At the time application is made, the customer is given a general information sheet. This informs the customer of our policies and procedures, a breakdown of our current water and sewer rates, new connections to our main line and the other utilities they need to contact for service.

*To disconnect service, you must come in person to City Hall at 515 W. Main Street, Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4pm, sign in to Utility Pay, or send an email to Utility Billing. Please include in your email your forwarding address, phone number, and date of disconnection.

Water, Sewer, and Fire Fee Billing

General Information:

EFFECTIVE ON ANY AND ALL BILLINGS RENDERED AFTER MARCH 31, 2023.

The city of Bridgeport bills water ad sewer customer on a monthly basis.  Customers have twenty days from the billing date to pay without penalties, thereafter a 10% penalty applies.  Shutoff notices are sent to accounts which are not paid in full within (40) days of the billing date.

Reconnection Charge: 

When service is disconnected for non-payment of a water only or water/sewer combined service bill, a reconnection fee of $60.00 shall be charged.  In the event the delinquent bill is collected after the meter readers arrive at the residence but the service has not been shutoff at the time payment is received, a $30.00 administrative fee shall be charged.  A $30.00 reconnection fee will be assessed for each occurrence where service to customers is restored, after service has been terminated for non-payment of bills.  Reconnection fee after 4:00pm Monday – Friday or on weekends and holidays shall be charged an additional $30.00.

When water service is disconnected for non-payment of a sewer only bill, a reconnection fee of $50.00 shall be charged.  A $50.00 reconnection fee will be assessed for each occurrence where service to customers is restored, after service has been terminated for non-payment of bills.  Reconnection fee after 4:00pm Monday – Friday or on weekends and holidays shall be charged an additional $25.00.

Return Checks:

There will be a $25.00 charge assessed for any returned checks to the City of Bridgeport.  The minimum monthly water and sewer bill for an individual who lives within the city limits is $58.15for zero (0) gallons up to and including 3,000 gallons of water.  Bills are based on metered amount of 100 gallons.

Fire Fees

As approved by council on July 1, 2007 - Residents Fire Service Fee (Inside City Limits)

Service Fee - $100 per year or $8.33 monthly.
Residents homes under 2,500 sq. ft. - $80 per year or $6.66 monthly
Commercial Rate - $0.045 per square foot
Minimum bill (combined with water & sewer) - $63.78 or $62.11

As approved by council on July 11, 2011 - Fire Service Fee (Outside City Limits)

Fee - $37.50 per quarter
Commercial Rate - $0.0675 per square foot

You may be eligible for a hardship exemption for the City of Bridgeport Fire Protection Assessment Fee for the fiscal year beginning July 1. In order to qualify, homeowners must meet strict income and residence eligibility criteria and provide all required documentation.
