In partnership with the City of Bridgeport community, they strive to offer efficient, cost effective and environmentally responsible services that make Bridgeport a beautiful, vibrant and appealing City in which to live and work.

Snow Removal

The City of Bridgeport is ready for the snow we receive during the winter months. The Department of Public Works will carry out a complete Snow Removal / Ice Control Program on all city streets.

It is important to know how snow removal will be carried out. The following information will be helpful when coping with the hazards of winter driving.

The City has been divided into six (6) geographical areas. The main thoroughfares and streets adjacent to businesses and schools are given first priority. Collector streets, those between main thoroughfares, are the second priority, and side streets are given the third priority.

The purpose of the snow removal program is to treat all roads in an order that will benefit the most people within the quickest time frame. After every street is treated (plowed and abrasives such as salt applied) at least once, the crews return to widen the lanes.

During normal working hours (7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), the Superintendent of Public Works is in charge of dispatching the road crews. After the normal workday, the City of Bridgeport Police Department is in the most favorable position to determine when road conditions have deteriorated to a point where treatment is necessary. The police will dispatch the on-call Public Works crews to begin treating the roads. If you are experiencing difficulties due to hazardous road conditions on our streets after normal working hours, please contact the 911 call center and they will inform our police department.

When bad weather is forecasted, please be prepared. If possible, please do not park on the street. This enables our vehicles to respond and maneuver more effectively. Do not shovel snow or have your driveway plowed into the streets. The Public Works Department tries to divert snow from being plowed into your driveway.

Please contact the Public Works Department at 304-842-8206 should you have any questions, comments, or concerns. The City appreciates your patience and please drive safely.
