Are you a licensed Professional Engineer passionate about shaping public infrastructure and community development? The City of Bridgeport is seeking a City Engineer to lead its Engineering Department and coordinate city-wide engineering functions. About the Role
The City Engineer is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all municipal engineering programs and projects. You will serve as the technical advisor to city leadership and ensure compliance with engineering standards. This is a leadership role, working closely with other departments, external consultants, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
•Lead engineering planning and implementation for city-wide infrastructure projects.
•Oversee design, inspection, surveying, and capital improvement programs.
•Review and approve engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and ordinances.
•Manage budgets, forecast resource needs, and approve expenditures.
•Supervise staff including hiring, performance reviews, and training.
•Serve as liaison and technical advisor to the City Manager, Council, and other departments.
•Evaluate and coordinate external engineering consultants and contracts.
•Engage with the public and community groups regarding infrastructure concerns.
•Ensure safety compliance and develop emergency response and infrastructure expansion plans.

Minimum Qualifications
•Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
•Current West Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license.
•At least 5 years of progressively responsible engineering experience (preferably in municipal government).

Preferred Qualifications
•Prior supervisory experience in a public works or engineering capacity.

•Strong leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
•Proficiency in technical software and GIS.
•Ability to coordinate across departments and with outside agencies.
•Skill in public speaking, policy development, and conflict resolution.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
•Work split between office, construction sites, and city projects.
•Exposure to sewer systems and inclement weather.
•Frequent walking on uneven terrain; occasional lifting, crouching, and climbing.

Additional Information
•As a condition of employment, availability during state emergencies and off-hours is required.
•This position plays a vital role in emergency infrastructure response.
